Vile: Poison pen letter writer given indefinite ASBO

Poison pen letter writer Margaret Walker, 73, was given a lifetime antisocial behaviour order after she admitted sending over 500 leaflets full of racist slurs, graphic drawings and vile rants about different ethnic groups.
The widow from Fareham, near Portsmouth, branded Scots 'scum' and lambasted people of Pakistani origin as ‘scroungers’ during the five-year spree.
She said Prime Minister David Cameron was ‘flooding the country with ethnic people' and bombarded MPs, businesses, shops and parish councils up and down the country with her racist views.
She singled out Marks and Spencer and St Mary’s Hospital in Portsmouth demanding the hospital to get rid of ‘dirty, untrustworthy foreign staff, to make it pure again’ for English people.
Walker tried to stop Hampshire Police imposing the ASBO claiming she was raising issues ignored by the establishment and claimed her human rights to freedom of speech.
But magistrates rejected her arguments and imposed the indefinite order.
Under the ASBO she is forbidden from posting any ‘foul or abusive’ words, pictures, symbols or diagrams and must sign and give her return address on any other mail she posts.
Should she breach the order she faces a five year jail term and a £5,000 fine.

Fareham magistrate Gordon Burlinson ruled the letters amounted to ‘hate speech’ and Walker could not rely on her human rights of freedom of expression.
Mr Burlinson said: 'This recent correspondence was planned and deliberate.
'Some colour was used to enhance the letters for effect and convey a range of very offensive, distressing, racist and frightening language.
'This goes way beyond mature and reasonable debate or even strongly phrased comment.
'The nature of the content, frequency, duration and impact on the recipient does take us outside the protection of Article 10.'

Walker started sending the anonymous letters in 2007 and was caught two years later following an appeal featured on Crimewatch.
Although arrested and given a warning she continued sending out letters between December 2011 and June this year.
Letters sent in 2010 focused on an unsolved murder of a teenager in Blackpool.
Walker repeatedly claimed the teenager was killed by Muslim paedophile murderers.
Roger Trencher, a solicitor for Hampshire Constabulary, said: 'Walker’s letters caused distress throughout the country.
'All the indications were that she was not prepared to stop.'
Walker who lives on a £880 pension was ordered to pay £5,000 towards legal costs.
She will be able to appeal against the ASBO in two years’ time.
